William Packard, esteemed poet, playwright, novelist, editor, and founder of The New York Quarterly, an influential national poetry magazine, died of natural causes in his Manhattan apartment on Sunday, November 3. He was 69.
William Packard was born September 2, 1933 and was raised in New York. A graduate of Stanford University, where he earned a degree in Philosophy and studied under the renowned poet and critic Yvor Winters, Mr. Packard was a presence in the literary circles of the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1950’s and 60’s — circles that included such notables
